If you were given the opportunity to move to a different state, to run a business that could very well be yours in 15 years, and still work for the boss you have worked with for 10 years, would you go?
Steve was recently approached by his boss to move to Alaska and run a business. Granted, his boss has not purchased the business as of yet, but it looks like he will. Steve is unsure if he wants to go. Yes, I know we have 4 kids-from 9 to 1. Yes, I know it would be unlike anywhere we have been before. Yes, I know we wouldn't be close to family. Yes, we would have to work hard to keep the business running-have I mentioned it has been in business for 20 years already? But look at the long term....we could have our own business in 15 years when Steve's boss retires. We could feel good knowing that we worked our tails off to make the business profitable. Yeah, the first few years could be difficult, I may have to go back to work until we get the business really going and we get settled in. These are all things that I understand and am prepared for.
Just think of the experiences we could have. Think of the things the kids could do that they can't here in Texas-do you know anywhere in TX that you can catch salmon with a dipnet? Can you go ice fishing in TX? Watch a moose walk thru the back yard? Think of the culture we can experience first hand, not on some history or travel show on TV. Yes, it would be a whole new way of life, but I am ready. The kids will be fine, they will adjust. We can make it!
Now, how do I convince him of all of this?????
